SUMMER HOMEWORK

Happy Summer Everyone!

 

Purpose: The purpose of NCS LS summer homework is to maintain skills and brain powerlearned the previous year throughout the summer. It is not our intention to take away from thesummer experience, but to support each child’s growth as he/she prepares for the upcomingschool year! Of course we understand that vacations and trips occur and know that there will be aweek or two that a child is not able to complete summer exercises.

Reading (Rising Kindergarten-5th)

Please record titles, dates, and time

Rising K read with/to child 10 min at least 3 times per week

Rising 1st goal of 10 min at least 3 times per week

Rising 2nd goal of 15 min at least 3 times per week

Rising 3rd goal of 20 min at least 3 times per week (suggestion: Third Grade Angels )

Rising 4th goal of 20 min at least 3 times per week (suggestion: Tales of a 4th Grade Nothing)

Rising 5th goal of 20 min at least 3 times per weekSuggestions for 5th: City of Ember, Hidden Figures, Pay it Forward (Young Readers’ Edition),Christian Heroes Then and Now (one they haven’t read yet)

Writing (Rising 1st-5th)

Keep a summer journal with 6-8 entries minimum that are developmentally appropriate. Picturesmay be included. Topics are endless! However, we did include some ideas below if needed.

Rising 1st 1-2 sentences minimum

Rising 2nd 4-5 sentences minimum

Rising 3rd 5-6 sentences minimum

Rising 4th 7-9 sentences per paragraph (1 paragraph minimum)

Rising 5th 8-10 sentences per paragraph (minimum 2 paragraphs)

Topic ideas: ANY fun/scary/unique/enlightening summer memory, what I would do with a million dollars,the day kids took over the school, why I think summer should be longer than the school year, favoritebook/food/sport...and why, if i could be any animal I’d be a _________ and why, which Bible figure I’d like tointerview and why, letter to my previous teacher, letter to my new teacher...

Math (Rising 1st-5th)

Please use our online math program, IXL, to practice math skills. Math fact automaticity is keyso please pay special attention to those areas! (objectives on grade level or above expectedunless assigned otherwise) IXL reports will be run at the start of school.

Rising 1st 10 minutes per day at least 3 times per week

Rising 2nd 15 minutes per day at least 3 times per week

Rising 3rd 15 minutes per day at least 3 times per week

Rising 4th 20 minutes per day at least 3 times per week

Rising 5th 20 minutes per day at least 3 times per week

Ambassador Store

Want or need any Norfolk Christian apparel?  Please stop by our Ambassador Store.  It is located at our Upper School.  Please contact the Upper School at 423-5770.

NCLS (Norfolk) Lunch Program
  • NCLS will send a lunch order form in 2 week increments to PRE-ORDER lunches for your child. Typically there is one week between receipt of the menu and the due date for your lunch order to be returned to NCLS. 
  •  Each item costs $4.00
  • We accept cash and checks (payable to NCS) at this time. You may pay with each order form or lunch accounts can be established for your student.  Send in an amount to set up the account and updates will be sent as funds are depleted.
  • All students receive one complimentary milk each day.
  • A dessert assortment is offered to the students daily during lunch times - cookies, brownies, etc. Prices range from $.50 to $1.00 - (cash only).
  • We hope you take advantage of this program to provide lunches for your students!  Please contact Ann Fuller (afuller@norfolkchristian.org) or Tara Jackson (tjackson@norfolkchristian.org) with any questions.
Chapel Every Wednesday!

Parents are invited and encouraged to attend our chapels on Wednesday mornings at 8:45a.m.  We would love to have you!

Reminder: Chapel dress is long pants for boys and a jumper or skirt for girls.

Jeans Day

Fridays are Jeans Day. Children may wear jeans with a spirit wear shirt. If you have not been able to acquire spirit apparel, students may wear a gold, white or purple polo shirt.

State law requires a new athletic participation medical exam for each academic calendar year. Physicals are valid from May 1st through the following April.
