Norfolk Christian has a strong international student population representing many different countries in Europe, Asia, South America and Africa. A dedicated program staff strives to ensure the success of each international student and offers regular support for their needs. Twenty – thirty international students join us each year, beginning in grades 8 through 12. It is always our desire that international students remain from the time they join us through graduation if possible.
Students are placed with host families in order to receive a full American experience with NCS families. Transportation to classes, practices and all school activities and events is provided. All host families have been thoroughly vetted, trained, and chosen for their commitment to our school mission, as well as a love for working with students.
Support and Activities
International students are provided ESL support, after-school tutoring, intensive college and academic advising, as well as participation in activities planned solely for students in the program. Many students also participate in athletics, fine arts, student government and extra-curricular clubs.
Each year, international students take a planned trip to an East Coast city rich in American history, with recent trips to New York, Boston and Washington, D.C. Students will visit Philadelphia during the 2018-19 school year. Many international students also join our larger student missions teams for summer service trips to China, South Africa, Vietnam and Nicaragua (missions trip costs not included in tuition). Regular community service is also supported.
We offer a wide array of Advanced Placement (AP) and Honors classes for students wishing to pursue admission to selective universities. Our Math and Science program allows prepared students to complete through AP Calculus BC, the highest level of high school math available, in addition to AP Biology, Chemistry and Physics.
Norfolk Christian international students typically excel academically and have enjoyed acceptances to prestigious universities across the United States and Europe.
