In Memory of Nancy Wiedmaier

Nancy Wiedmaier Memorial

Thank you for helping us honor our dear friend Nancy Wiedmaier, who went to be with her precious Lord on June 10, 2021.

Nancy was one of Norfolk Christian’s biggest cheerleaders. She was a proud alumni mom and loved seeing her grandchildren grow up at NCS. From 1982 – 2008, she spent 26 years teaching at our High School and was the head of the Business program for much of that time. Decades of alumni learned to type in Mrs. Wiedmaier’s classroom.

When she wasn’t teaching, you could often find Nancy at one of her children’s or grandchildren’s many sporting events. She loved to cheer for her Ambassadors.

We will miss Nancy’s smile and quiet wisdom but her legacy will live on through her grandchildren, children, friends, and the hundreds of students who sat in her classrooms.

NCS Receives College Board’s “Female Diversity” Award for AP Computer Science

AP Computer Science Principles 20-21NCS is one of only three private schools in the state to be honored with the College Board’s “Female Diversity Award for AP Computer Science Principles” for the 2019-20 school year. The award recognizes the “outstanding work (Norfolk Christian) is doing to engage more female students in computer science.” Research has shown that young women who take AP Computer Science Principles in high school are 5x more likely to major in Computer Science in college and be ready to hold the industry’s highest-paying jobs. We are so thankful for Ms. Oakman’s leadership and can’t wait to see what God has in store for these awesome young ladies!

Drumline wows Norfolk Lower School

Social distancing couldn’t keep our Ambassadors from celebrating Spirit Week. Since we weren’t able to have a pep rally, our High School Drumline paid the Norfolk Lower School a visit on Wednesday and gave everyone something to jump and dance about. With classes sectioned off and lining the field, it was a great way to be together while still staying a safe distance apart. Even our next-door neighbor firefighters got to enjoy the performance! And some brave, budding drummers tried their hands out at a new talent. A big thanks to NCS alumnus Ben Mekkes ’15 and his Drumline team for making Wednesday the best day of the week!

Shortened Athletic Season Starts in December

Shortened Athletic Season Starts in December

The TCIS has announced that competition within the conference will take place this year, with each season being shortened so that all sports can be squeezed in after the late start date. The Winter Season will kick off the year in December, followed by fall sports and ending with spring.

VISAA announced in July that they would not sponsor state championships for the 2020-21 school year so we are delighted that conference play is moving forward. Student-athletes were able to work out over the summer in small groups and will begin formal conditioning later in September.

Norfolk Christian Athletic teams will have the following revised schedule:

WINTER SPORTS:  November 18 – January 30

Tryouts begin: November 18

First Competition: December 8

FALL SPORTS: February 1 – March 27

Tryouts begin:   January 25

First Competition:  February 16

SPRING SPORTS:  March 29 – May 22

Tryouts begin:   March 22

First Competition:   April 13

Three Seniors Win Prestigious University Awards

During the first week of school, Director of Academic Support Jill Randall had the pleasure of surprising three current seniors with awards from prestigious universities in Virginia.

These awards would normally have been given out at the end of junior year but were delayed until students were able to return to campus this fall.

A huge congratulations to these hard-working students – what a great way to kick off senior year!
