Capital Campaign Update
July 10, 2018

Field phase 1 - completed:
  • Seekel Street purchased, field site work & construction completed, scoreboard & fencing installed.
The new synthetic turf Moore Family Field was completed in October of 2016.  
Did you know??
The first game on Moore Family Field was played on March 20, 2017.  The Varsity Girls Soccer team defeated Portsmouth Christian 2-1 with Madison Capps '18 scoring the first goal.
In the first year on Moore Family Field:
  • 19 Girls Soccer Games
  • 13 Varsity Boys Lacrosse Games
  • 3 JJV Boys Lacrosse Games
  • 6 Varsity Football Games, including the Division 2 State Championship Game!!!
  • 5 JJV Football Games
  • 7 Varsity Boys Soccer Games
Totaling 55 Home Games at Norfolk Christian Schools
The synthetic turf has drastically decreased the number of game and practice cancellations!!
Over 15 different community groups rent our new field, bringing in revenue and creating a sense of community.

How has the money already given to the campaign been used?
  • Aggressive Debt Reduction - the amount of capital debt has gone down from $4.4 million to $969,000
  • Endowment Fund - Approximately $650,000 has been designated by donors towards the school's Endowment Fund 
  • Seekel Street purchase - needed for construction of athletic field
  • Site work - athletic field
  • Athletic field installation including premier safety upgrades of both padding and organic fill

  • Fencing - athletic field
  • Carlson Conditioning Center construction & flooring

  • Lights for athletic field, press box, enhanced naming entrance & sound system

CAPITAL CAMPAIGN - Where we are today...
$244,325 - Total cash needed to reach the overall campaign goal and unlock $1,000,000  bonus gift.  All of these gifts will continue to be matched 1 for 1.
$114,000 - Is pledged to the campaign to be received this summer
$50,000 - Is pending in a grant request that would be paid this summer
$80,325 - Balance that will remain after receiving the pledges and grant this summer.  This amount is needed to unlock the $1,000,000 bonus gift (see below on how the bonus will be used)

How will the $1,000,000 bonus incentive matching gift be used?
  • Pay off the capital loan - eliminate our previous capital debt!
  • Lights for the athletic field
  • Press box added to the bleachers
  • Enhanced entrance for athletic field (stonework, field name)
  • Current and future capital expenses to be determined by the Board of Trustees

Field phase 3 - completed:
  • Carlson Conditioning Center will open in August 2018
  • Construction in the existing athletic wing atrium, flooring and conditioning equipment
  • The special naming gift made allowed this phase to be completed ahead of the original phasing plan.

The Carlson Conditioning Center was planned to compliment the new athletic field and offer a highly visible location where student-athletes and coaches will have access to the latest in strength and conditioning equipment.

Exciting New Solar Energy Project...
The school is undertaking a rooftop solar energy project that is independently funded.  The project will benefit the school through significantly lower annual energy costs at the upper school. This benefits the operating budget which is independent of the capital campaign.
